Model		8-10 GHz exposure to two Navy servicemen and analysis of subjective complaints
Details		Two Navy servicemen (aged 54 and 21) were accidentally exposed to an 8-10 GHz X-band RF radar source (fire control radar) for 75 - 80 seconds in the near field at field strengths of 475-580 V/m, corresponding to a power density of 60-90 mW/cm2. Follow-up analysis of the two men revealed emotional instability, headaches, hypertension, and insomnia. Two additional Navy personnel were exposed to the same radar source for 5-10 seconds, and while initially reporting vertigo, a heat sensation, headache (persisting for 10 days in one case), and decreased attention span and forgetfullness (persisting for 3 weeks in one case), there were no consistent long term pathological effects reported.

Comments		It is very difficult to make a conclusion based upon 4 individuals with inconsistent exposure assessment. Further, no controls to account for other confounding factors that the men might have been exposed to were included in this study. The study would certainly need replication under more controlled conditions before the results presented by the authors could be validated.
