Model 900 MHz (GSM) exposure to C6 glioma cells and analysis of nitric oxide synthase expression and activity
Details

C6 glioma cells, U937 human monocytes, and normal murine macrophages were exposed to 900 MHz (GSM) RF at 0.65 - 0.77 W/kg for up to 48 hours using a wire patch antenna exposure system. The authors could not detect significant changes in Nitric Oxide Synthetase-II (NOS-II) protein by Immunoblot analysis or nitrate accumulation after RF exposure. NO plays a prominent role in the mechanism of cytotoxicity in macrophages, signaling in neurotransmission, regulation of blood flow in the vascular system, and in the perfusion and function of many organs and tissues.

Comments

Although no effects were observed after the 4 hour exposure, the authors suggest longer exposures may be necessary to observe any effects if they do indeed exist.
