21 MHz (80% AM - 1 MHz), 1.8, 2.1 GHz (GSM, UMTS) exposure to plants and analysis of micronuclei formation |
Details |
|
Tradescantia plants were exposed to 21 MHz (80% AM, 1MHz modulation) at ~ 60-120 V/m using an open strip-line exposure system in a replication of the studies of Haider et al (Mutation Research 1994, 324:65-68) looking at micronuclei formation due to RF exposure. A significant amount of variability existed between sham, exposed, and positive & negative control groups, although a reproducible effect of RF exposure was reported. In subsequent studies, the group is using the same micronucleus assay (# of MN in meiotic pollen mother cells in Tradescantia) to study the effects of 1800 MHz (GSM) as well as 2.1 GHz (UMTS) RF exposure. |
