Study Type Engineering & Physics
Model Electromagnetic interference from 450 MHz (CW-radios) and 900, 1800 MHz (GSM) mobile phone exposure to ventilators and infusion pumps.
Details

Ventilators were tested using 450 MHz radios and 900 & 1800 MHz GSM cell phones using the ANSI C63.18 ad hoc test protocol. More EMI was observed with the 450 MHz 5 watt radios than with the cell phones. The authors report minimal seperation safe distances (95% confidence) of 4.5 meters for radios, 1 meter for 900 MHz GSM phones, and 0.3 meters for 1800 MHz GSM phones. No mention is made of alternative strategies designed to control and decrease transmission power as an alternative to manage EMI. The authors also support a general 1 meter minimal separation distance, where effects were minimal or non-existent.
