Human volunteers (n=48) were exposed to a 900 MHz GSM phone signal radiating at full power (0.25 watts average) for either 30 or 60 minutes with the phone strapped to the right side of their head. In a first experiment, the subjects served as their own self-controls. In a second experiment, half the subjects were exposed and half sham exposed. The authors report no effect on headache, dizziness, fatigue, or sensations due to RF exposure from the phone. In a related study, subjects (n = 84) were recruited to see if they could determine when a phone (900 MHz GSM), peak rated SAR 1.21 W/kg) was on vs off (3 x 5 seconds on, 1 second off) as well as changes in transmit power. They were also evaluated for warmth, skin sensations, sound, headache, and dizziness. The authors report the responses were no better than those expected by chance. Two participants did initially score very well (apparently by chance), but the findings could not be replicated. |
