915 MHz (PW) exposure to rats at high peak power and analysis of behavior |
Details |
|
Wistar rats were exposed to 915 MHz (PW-1 to 360 msec pulse width) MW at high power. The threshold for stunning the rats with MW pulses was 680 J and was not dependent on peak power or pulse width. Thermographic data indicated this would correspond to a change in temperature of 8 C in the rat brain. Rats exposed at this level displayed petit mal or grand mal seizures lasting for ~ 1 minute, followed by 4-5 minutes of unconsciousness. A histological examination indicated demyelination of neurons in the cortex 1 day after the exposure, as well as swollen brains and microfocal glial nodules 1 month after exposure. |
