Model 1.6 GHz (IRIDIUM) exposure to rats and analysis of brain gene expression and stress hormone induction
Details

Fisher 344 (male) rats exposed for 2 hours to 1616 MHz IRIDIUM signals in a head first manner in a carrousel irradiator at 0.16, 1.6, and 5 W/kg (brain average SAR). Brain tissue samples taken immediately after sacrifice were used to isolate poly-A RNA for the measurement of c-fos, ODC and other immediate early genes. No effects of RF exposure on immediate early gene expression were observed. In addition, ACTH and corticosterone levels from peripheral blood taken immediately after sacrifice and showed a slight effect of stress from the carrousel restraining device, but no effect of the actual IRIDIUM exposure. Small implanted temperature sensors showed no significant core body temperature elevations, even at 5 W/kg.
