Model 1.2 GHz (CW, PW) exposure to rats and analysis of blood brain, blood-vitreous humor (eye), and placental barrier permeability
Details

Rats were exposed to 1.2 GHz (CW, PW) RF and analyzed for blood brain barrier (BBB), blood-vitreous humor barrier and placental barrier permeability. Limited results provided on the effect of RF exposure on BBB permeability to cancer drugs. Increased fluorescence leakage across the blood vitreous humor was reported [1.2 GHz, CW & PW (7.5 pps, 10 usec pulse width), 0.1 mW/cm2, 30 min]. Exposure of pregnant females injected with sodium fluorescein and exposed to 1.2 GHz (PW) microwaves at 0.1 and 4 mW/cm2 did not result in leakage of dye across the placental barrier. The paper in the J. Bioelectricity (1984) describes the effect of RF exposure on dye leakage across the vitreous humor of the rat eye. A small but significant increase was observed following exposure for 25 min at an average incident power density of 75 uW/cm2 (1.2 GHz, 7.5 pps, 10 usec pulse width).
