Model 147, 50 MHz (CW & AM-16 Hz) exposure to chick brain and analysis of Ca++ efflux
Details

Chick forebrain tissue was exposed to 147 MHz (CW or AM-16 Hz) RF for 20 minutes at power densities ranging from 0.1 to 2.7 mW/cm2 in a TEM cell. Exposure resulted in both positive and negative effects on efflux of Ca++ from brain tissue depending upon the modulation pattern and the power density of RF exposure. In addition, temperature had an effect on Ca++ efflux. The authors suggest “windows” of modulation and power density to produce these effects. In more recent studies, Blackman et al exposed chick brain tissue to 50 MHz (AM-16 Hz) for 20 minutes at SARs of between 0.36 – 5.4 W/kg. Ca++ efflux was observed at specific exposure “windows”. The authors speculate on mechanisms of both AM and SAR “windows” for Ca++ efflux, and suggest that low frequency modulations and ELF magnetic fields may be responsible.
