E.coli were exposed to 900 MHz GSM for 1 hour at 1, 2, or 4 W/kg in a specially designed system based on a wire patch antenna. Viability and membrane potential were determined by flow cytometry using propidium iodide and DiOC6(3) incorporation, respectively. ATP content was determined by fluorescent conversion activity of cells transformed with a luciferase enzyme construct. While earlier effects were observed with 50 Hz exposures on ATP content, no effects were reported due to RF exposure. The exposure system used was described by Laval et al at the 21st Bioelectromagnetics Society Meeting (1999). |
