Occupational and environmental exposure to microwaves and correlation with (male) breast cancer |
Details |
|
Human study of male breast cancer (277 cases in men between 1983 - 1987 identified from 10 population based cancer registries of the SEER program of the NCI) and exposure to EMF, including microwave exposure. A small statistical elevation was observed for jobs classified as having exposure to low levels of power-frequency EMF and possibly to MW (dispatchers, broadcast equipment operators, air traffic controllers, etc.). The risk ratio for this group was OR = 2.9, 95% CI 0.8-10. Excess risk was seen only in individuals with their first exposure prior to age 30 and 30 or more years of exposure prior to diagnosis, with no indication of increased risk among individuals first exposed when over 30 yr of age. |
