50 Hz ELF occupational exposure to workers in Italy and correlation with immune function |
Details |
|
Human peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL) from workers (n = 121) occupationally exposed to 50 Hz ELF were isolated and immune function was examined. The authors report decreased natural killer cell activity for individuals exposed to a time-weighted average greater than 1 microT, and a non-significant decreased trend was observed for individuals exposed to a time-weighted average between 0.21-0.99 microT. The authors speculate that such an effect may also increase the risk of neurodegenerative disorders (also associated with natural killer cell changes).
