Study Type In Vivo
Model 50 Hz (ELF) exposure to rats and analysis of oxidative stress including oxidative DNA damage.
Details

Sprague Dawley rats (n = 30) were exposed to 50 Hz ELF at 100 microT or 500 microT for 2 hr/day, 7 days/wk, for 10 months using a Helmholtz coil exposure system. The authors report that after exposure, no significant morphological differences in the brain were observed. Although there was no overall increase in apoptosis, anti-oxidant enzymes (catalase) and total anti-oxidative capacity were decreased and oxidative stress indicators (malondialdehyde levels) were increased.
