50 Hz (ELF) exposure to isolated pig sperm and oviducts and analysis of fertilization |
Details |
|
Isolated uterine tubes (oviducts) from female pigs were exposed to 50 Hz (ELF) for 1 hour at 0, 0.5, 0.75, or 1 milliT immediately following artificial insemination. The authors report a significant reduction in fertilization and polyspermy rates in oocytes isolated from oviducts exposed at 0.75 milliT and above. In addition, isolated semen samples from male pigs exposed to 50 Hz ELF at 2 milliT for 1 hour resulted in significant damage to the sperm head acrosome and a decrease in fertilization rate and initial embryo cleavage events. |
