M054, T98, and A172 human glioma cell lines were exposed to 1950 MHz (UMTS) at 1 or 10 W/kg for 1 hour, with 43 degrees C for 3 hours used as a positive control. The authors report no increase in hsp27 or hsp70 protein levels or cell localization as observed by immunofluorescent staining and Western blotting, although there was a slight decrease in the expression of p-Hsp27 in the MO54 at 10 W/kg. The authors interpret these findings as no effect of UMTS exposure at the current limits for localized exposure.
