Model Mobile phone use by bicyclists in the Netherlands and correlation with performance and accidents

Bicyclists in Groningen Netherlands were assessed for mobile phone use while cycling. The authors report 2.2% of cyclists were observed talking on a mobile phone and 0.6% text messaging. Approximately 0.5% of cyclists involved in accidents were using a mobile phone a the time. The authors report a negative performance and attention correlation between cycling and using the mobile phone and suggest it may be a growing safety concern.
