Mobile phone use by bicyclists in the Netherlands and correlation with performance and accidents |

Bicyclists in Groningen Netherlands were assessed for mobile phone use while cycling. The authors report 2.2% of cyclists were observed talking on a mobile phone and 0.6% text messaging. Approximately 0.5% of cyclists involved in accidents were using a mobile phone a the time. The authors report a negative performance and attention correlation between cycling and using the mobile phone and suggest it may be a growing safety concern. |
