1.5, 2, 75 Hz (PEMF) exposure to rats and analysis of parameters involved in osteoporosis |
Details |
|
Wistar rats (n = 30, sham-operated or ovariectomized) were exposed to 1.5, 2, or 75 Hz for 30 min/day for 3 months. After 3 months, bone marrow cells were isolated from each rat, grown for 2 days as primary cultures, and again exposed as above for 30 minutes/day for 2 weeks. The authors report ovariectomy alone increased osteoclastic like cells, and PEMF treatment to OVX rats partially blocked this increase by increasing osteoclastic cell apoptosis with 2 and 75 Hz being the most effective. The authors suggest PEMF may be a potential osteoporosis therapy. |
