1 Hz PEMF exposure to resected rat femurs and analysis of bone healing |
Details |
|
Wistar rats were exposed to 1 Hz pulsed electromagnetic fields for 1 hr/day, twice per day for 6 weeks at the level of the right midshaft femur that had been osteotomized to create a gap of 5mm and transfixed with a Kirshner wire. The authors report exposure increased bone weight and formation, as well as increased expression of TGF-beta1 and TGF-beta2. In a related study performed in rabbits (n = 6), the authors report increased osteochondrocyte activity and cartilage healing. |
