Mice (n = 15) were placed immediately next to, or below and 1 meter distant, or below and 300 meters distant, to 900, 1800 MHz (GSM) base station antennas in residential and office neighborhoods. Mice were exposed in this manner for 6 months after which they were sacrificed and analyzed for sperm abnormalities. Measured field strengths from the antennas ranged from 625 +/- 25 mV/m at the first site, 489 +/- 43 at the second site, and 59 +/- 17 at the third site. The authors report increased sperm head abnormalities with increasing exposure (site 1 = 46.03%, site 2 = 39.78, site 3 = 2.13%) and suggest possible reproductive health effects. |
