Static and 50 Hz (ELF) exposure to primary human T-cell populations and analysis of proliferation and inflammatory cytokine secretion |
| Details |
|
Primary human CD4+ helper T cells from volunteers (n = 8) were exposed to static and 50 Hz magnetic fields at 0.5 milliT for 2 hours and analyzed for differentiation, proliferation, and release of inflammatory cytokines. The authors report CD4+ CD45- (memory T-cell) subtypes showed more significant decreases in IFN-gamma secretion, proliferation, and intracellular Ca++ than CD4+ CD45+ (mature but naive) subtypes. The effect was transient and reversible. The authors suggest magnetic fields might be used to manipulate the immune response. |
