Model Environmental exposures to children and correlation with cancer clusters involving hematopoietic and solid tumors
Details

Children (n = 32,323; 0-14 years of age) with cancer in the UK between 1969 - 1993 were evaluated to look for cancer clusters. Subcategories of cancer included all leukemia, ALL, ANLL), all lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma, nonHodgkin lymphoma, CNS tumors, soft tissue sarcomas, bone tumors, sympathetic nervous system tumors, Wilms and other renal tumors, germ cell and related tumors, all cancers except leukemia and lymphoma, and all cancers. The authors report clustering for ALL (OR = 0.05, p = 0.002), soft-tissue sarcoma (OR = 0.03, p = 0.04), and Wilms tumour (OR = 0.04, p = 0.007) that was attributable to a limited number of cases and tended to persist across different time periods. The authors suggest environmental factors may be the cause.
