Model 50 Hz (ELF) exposure to human colon adenocarcinoma cells and analysis of reactive oxygen species, oxidative protein damage and subsequent protein degradation
Details

Human colon adenocarcinoma (Caco2) cells were exposed to 50 Hz (ELF) at 1 mT for 24-72 hrs and analyzed for viability, growth, reactive oxygen species, protein oxidation, and protein activity. Specifically, the authors report an activation of the 20S proteasome complex that was enhanced by co-exposure with TPA and blocked by co-exposure with the anti-oxidant EGCG, suggesting the effects of ELF exposure may have been mediated by an increase in intracellular free radicals.
