Study Type Epidemiology
Model 50 Hz (ELF) exposure to residents in Rome, Italy and correlation with cancer and disease
Details

Residents of a district in Rome, Italy (n = 345) betweeen 1954 and 2003 were evaluated for correlations between morbidity and magnetic field exposure from 50 Hz power lines (estimated based on current load, line characteristics, and proximity). The authors report a statistically significant increase in primary cancers among residents with greater than 30 years of residence and latency, as well as cardiovascular diseases in areas with the highest exposure. There was no increase specifically for hematopoietic cancers.
