Children recruited from 4 Bavarian cities (n = 1484 aged 8-12 and n = 1500 aged 13-17) were evaluated by questionnaire in a population based cross sectional study. The authors report 50% of children and 90% of adolescents had mobile phones, although most did not use them on a daily basis. All recorded exposures were far below the allowable ICNIRP limits with a median exposure in children of 0.18 to 0.19%. In a related study, the authors extended these analysis to show children in lower socio-economic brackets claimed more ownership of mobile phones (OR = 2.1, 95% CI = 1.1-3.9), perhaps due to the percieved status symbol. However, lower SES children were also less likely to own ((OR = 0.5, 95% CI = 0.2-0.9) or use 9OR = 0.2, 95% CI = 0.1-0.6) cordless DECT phones. |
