Literature review (n = 29 publications) of various in vitro and animal studies exposed to 50 Hz (ELF) and analysis of genotoxicity and DNA damage. The authors report approximately 50% showed DNA strand breaks (6 showing a direct genotoxic and 9 showing a synergistic effect in combination with other physical or chemical agents. The authors mention the lack of independent replication for the studies, and conclude that the data do not support a definitive conclusion.
