Volunteers (n = 2048) were randomly sampled using a telephone directory and a computer aided interview, and assessed concern over various agents including air pollution, UV radiation, genetically modified food, traffic accidents, distress, food additives, traffic noise, mobile phones, cordless phones, base stations, power lines, and electrical devivces. The authors report 66.8% of respondents reported symptoms from at least one of the exposures, ~5% reported symptoms from EMF (RF or ELF). Those who expressed concern but no symptoms (53% of the sample) most often cited mobile phone base stations as worrisome. Of those that reported symptoms from EMF, the majority were women between the ages of 35 - 65. |
