Model 835 MHz (CW) exposure of CHO cells and analysis of mitotic progression/spindle formation.
Details

Chinese hamster ovary K-1 cell hybrids [containing an additional hu chromosome 11 from an acute leukemia with a t(4;11) translocation] were exposed on a microscope slide to 853 MHz (CW) at using a field strength of 90 V/m for 0.5 or 2 hours. The estimated SAR in the small volume (0.1 mm height above the microscope slide where the cells were attached during exposure) was calculated between 0.06 and 0.08 W/kg. The associated temperature was reported to be less than 0.15 degree C. The authors report mitotic stage of cells was impaired by exposure, with mitotic spindle aberrations mainly during anaphase and telephase and being ~4x higher than in control cells reaching a plateau after ~28 minutes. The fraction of cells entering mitosis, however, was not affected. The authors did not perform a non-RF heat control to assess whether the observed effects might be similar.

Controls may not have been cultured in the microTEM cell like exposed. Not sure what is meant by "Due to the given experimental conditions at the laboratories in Munich and at the PTB, 9876 FC2 cells were analysed for controls which were kept unexposed either at 37 8C or parallel with the RF radiation exposures at room temperature of 2022 8C" - however, it appears another cell line or split or an experiment at another lab may have been used to gather control information.
