2450 MHz (CW) exposure to mice and analysis of cancer (C3H/HeJ breast tumor, benz(a)pyrene initiated Balb/c skin tumor bioassays) |
Details |
|
C3H/HeA mice (n=100 per group) having a high spontaneous incidence of breast cancer were exposed to 2450 MHz (CW) radiation for 2 hr/day, 6 days/wk, for 6 weeks (from week 6 through week 12 of life) at 5 mW/cm2 (SAR 2-3 W/kg) or 15 mW/cm2 (SAR 6-8 W/kg) in an anechoic chamber. In addition, Balb/c mice (n=100 per group) were exposed to 2450 MHz (CW) radiation for 2 hr/day, 6 days/wk at 5 mW/cm2 (SAR ~ 3 W/kg) or 15 mW/cm2 (SAR ~ 8 W/kg) in an anechoic chamber for either 1 or 3 months prior to treatment with 3,4-benzopyrene (BP) (painted on the back every 2 days for up to 5 months) to initiate & induce skin cancer, or for 5 months simultaneously with BP treatment. Microwave treatment increased breast tumor incidence in C3H/HeA mice and increased skin tumor incidence in BP treated Balb/c mice. The effects increased with higher microwave dose and longer exposure schedules. Microwave + BP treatment also reduced skin reactivity to dinitrofluorbenzene, suggesting a suppression of the cellular immune system. |
