Human volunteers (n = 95) were exposed to 2 GHz UMTS base station emissions (by turning an active base station located near the testing facility on and off at concealed intervals) and questioned using an on line questionairre. Subjects were asked about their well being, as well as whether the nearby base station was transmitting or not. The authors report no correlation of symptoms with, or ability to detect, RF exposure. On days when volunteers made significantly more health complaints, they also thought the mobile phone base station was transmitting, and was interpreted by the authors as an incorrect attribution. The authors state that double blind study design is essential to control this bias. |
