Studies of cell death and DNA damage in cells exposed in vitro to microwaves.
Details
Jurkat T-cells were exposed to 2450 MHz (CW) at 5 mW/cm2 for 48 hours and evaluated for proliferation and markers of apoptosis. The authors report increased apoptosis triggered by an antibody directed against the fas-receptor (fas-induced apoptosis) but no effect on butyrate or ceramide induced apoptosis. The authors conclude non-thermal RF effects on the membrane that are translated to the fas-receptor pathway.
