Mobile phone use in Switzerland (1969-2002) and geographical correlation with brain tumors |
Details |
|
Brain tumor cases from Switzerland (from Swiss National mortality registry, 1969 - 2002) were accessed and age-standardized to determine yearly brain tumor mortality rates per 100,000. Overlay comparison of mobile phone usage by age and gender was then performed. The authors report a significant increase in brain tumor rate over the period under study, but no apparent correlations with the introduction of mobile phone technology or use. Quote: &after the introduction of mobile phone technology in Switzerland, brain tumour mortality rates remained stable in all age groups. Our results suggest that mobile phone use is not a strong risk factor in the short term for mortality from brain tumours. |
