900 MHz (GSM, AMPS) mobile phone use and analasys of skin temperature increases at the cheek |
Details |
|
Human volunteers were exposed to 900 MHz (GSM or AMPS) operating at full power (GSM = 250 mW average, AMPS = 600 mW average) for 15 minutes and skin temperature compared between right (phone) and left (control) cheeks. The authors report temperature differences of 1.7, 2.0, 2.1, and 2.3 degrees C for 4 different GSM models and 2.3 and 4.5 degrees C for 2 different AMPS models. Phone without RF resulted in a 0.7 degree C decrease in temperature (due to heat transfer). The hand did not significantly influence the effect of the phone. The majority of heating was associated with battery, not RF or internal circuitry. |
