900, 1800 MHz (GSM) exposure to hairless mice and analysis of skin tumors |
Details |
|
Hairless mice were exposed to 900 or 1800 MHz (GSM) for either a single 2 hours or repeated 2 hr/day exposures for 12-weeks, using a head-first exposure system with a loop antenna. Local SAR at the skin was 5.8+/-0.4 W/kg for 900 MHz GSM and 4.8+/-0.4 W/kg for 1800 MHz GSM. The authors report no effects of RF exposure on skin tumors or histology, including a normal range of cell proliferation. In follow on studies, mice were exposed as above (single or repeated 2hr/day exposure) at 2.5 or 5.8 W/kg (900 MHz) or 2.5 or 4.8 W/kg (1800 MHz). The authors report no effect of RF exposure on HSP 25, HSP27, HSP70, or hsc70. Heat shock expression was increased in UVB positive control animals. |
