Model RF exposure to local residents from radio and TV broadcast towers and evaluation of biomarkers including melatonin, ODC, polyamines, estrogen, and immune markers
Details

Residents (n = 280) in Colorado living in proximity of several radio and TV towers were evaluated for correlations between residential RF and ELF exposure and several biomarkers. The authors report higher RF + ELF exposures combined elevated night-time melatonin metabolite excretion levels, higher ELF (but not RF) exposure elevated markers of DNA damage, and higher RF exposures were associated with increased total peripheral T cells and a decrease in ODC activity (but not polyamine concentration) in both mitogen stimulated and unstimulated leucocytes. In related studies using the same areas, the authors reported increased estrogen levels in post-menopausal but not in pre-menopausal women with increasing RF field levels.
