Evaluation of mobile phone use in healthcare, including benefits vs. EMI risks |
Details |
|
The authors performed a survey among Anesthesiologists at the 2003 American Society of Anesthesiologists meeting (n = 4,018 responses received). Many respondents (65%) still used pagers as a primary communication tool, and 17% relied on mobile phones. From the responses, the authors reported that mobile phones were associated with less delays tha pagers (OR = 0.78; 95% CI 0.62 - 0.96), and a reduction in medical errors could be assumed due to mobile phone use. This benefit should be weighed against the small risk of EMI when considering mobile phone use policy in healthcare facilities. |
