Volunteers (n = 38) were exposed to 900 MHz (GSM) by holding a mobile phone to their left ear for 30 minutes. No SAR was provided, although the max value (1.19 W/kg) of the particular mobile phone model was given. Subjects were assessed prior to exposure, during exposure (at 15 minutes), and after 30 minutes of exposure to six cognitive neuropsychological tests. The authors report RF exposure improved performance on two tests of attention capacity (digit span forwards and spatial span backwards) and one test of processing speed (serial subtraction), suggesting that it may have an immediate effect on improving verbal memory capacity, immediate visual spatial working memory capacity, and sustained attention. The authors suggest a rapid effect in line with prior reports of processing speed facilitation (Preece 1999, 2000, 2001, Koivisto 2001) |

No SAR, phone simply held by the subject to the left side of their head, and the exposure value (1.19 W/kg) probably just the max peak exposure for that phone model. Also, not clear how the authors blinded the study if control was always prior to exposure - did the subjects even hold the phone to their head during sham exposure ? |
