Case study of EMI between a mobile phone and an infusion pump |
Details |
|
initial anecdotal report of interference between mobile phone emissions and an infusion pump at Columbia University Hospital. A patient who arrived at the hospital with septic shock was placed on intravenous epinephrine, with a rate of delivery = 1.5 ml/h. After 9 uneventful hours, the patient complained of abdominal pains. The hospital determined that for approximately 2 minutes the epinephrine delivery rate was 999 ml/h. A staff member stated that a visiting family member had received a mobile phone call just before the acute episode. Subsequent laboratory testing replicated the event using mobile phone emissions. |
