Model 915 MHz (CW) diathermy and correlation between tissue heating and increased blood flow
Details

Human subjects (n=15) exposed to 915 MHz (CW) diathermy (with simultaneous skin cooling) were examined for tissue temperature and augmented blood flow using special thermistor probes and rate of radioactive washout of injected Xenon133 (Xe133). The authors report a "critical temperature" of approximately 42C at which rapid increases in blood flow occur when diathermy power is sufficient. An average peak blood flow of 48ml per minute per 100g was reported. Mathematical models of human thigh blood flow were also constructed and compared with actual data from X3133 washout studies.
