Study Type In Vivo
Model 902 MHz (GSM) exposure to mice and analysis of cancer (X-ray initiated lymphoma bioassay)
Details

CBA/S mice (female) in 6 groups of 50 mice each exposed (or sham exposed) to 4 gy ionizing radiation to initiate lymphomas (in three equal subdoses over 1 week). Ionizing radiation initiated mice (and sham initiated mice) were then exposed to 902 MHz (NMT/CW, GSM) RF in a rectangular waveguide (in restrainers) at 1.5 W/kg (NMT/CW) or 0.35 W/kg (GSM) for 1.5 hr/day, 5 days/wk, for 15 years in a waveguide exposure system. Body weights, clinical signs, and food and water consumption were recorded regulary. Haematological examination and the histopathological analysis of all lesions and major tissues were performed on all animals. No obvious tumor promotion effects by palpitation or histopathological analysis. The authors conclude RF exposure did not promote cancer (initiated by ionizing radiation) in female CBA mice, and thus this study does not support a cocarcinogenic effect of mobile phone RF in x-ray induced female mice.
