Study Type Engineering & Physics
Model 900 MHz (analogue, GSM) exposure to medical devices and analysis of electromagnetic interference
Details

Medical devices were exposed to 900 MHz (GSM) test signals from mobile phones and analyzed for performance. The authors report that within 2 mm of the medical devices, electric fields exceeded a 7 V/m the immunity level (previously recommended by the US FDA although new IEC 60601-1-2 guidelines have raised this level for life critical devices to 10 V/m). The authors observed that a variety of artifacts and alarm conditions could be triggered even thought the medical devices generally met the FDA recommended immunity level.
