900 MHz (analogue, GSM) exposure to medical devices and analysis of electromagnetic interference |
Details |
|
Medical devices were exposed to 900 MHz (GSM) test signals from mobile phones and analyzed for performance. The authors report that within 2 mm of the medical devices, electric fields exceeded a 7 V/m the immunity level (previously recommended by the US FDA although new IEC 60601-1-2 guidelines have raised this level for life critical devices to 10 V/m). The authors observed that a variety of artifacts and alarm conditions could be triggered even thought the medical devices generally met the FDA recommended immunity level. |
