6 kHz, 600 Hz, 60 Hz exposure to bacteria and analysis of mutation rate (Ames testing) |
Details |

Salmonella typhimurium (TA97a, TA98, TA100, and TA102) was exposed 6 kHz, 600 Hz, or 60 Hz EMF (both separate and combined exposures) for 48 hours at a constant level of 300 V/m, 0.3 mT. Plates were also exposed to the electric field (E), magnetic field (M), or combined electric and magnetic field (EM) and analyzed for back mutation in a standard Ames test. The authors report no effects of exposure under any conditions used. In another study, mouse peritoneal cells were exposed as above and cultured with lipopolysaccharide. Analysis of cell culture supernatants after 24 or 48 hours showed no effect on IL-1 or IL-6 levels. |
