Study Type In Vivo
Model 63 MHz (MRI frequency) exposure to rats and mice and analysis of behavioral effects
Details

Rats and mice were exposed to 63 MHz (MRI frequency) at ~1 T for 20 minutes and analyzed for behavioral effects. Exposures were both acute (several exposures over a period of days) or extended (single exposures spread out over a period of weeks). In one study, the authors report no effects in rats given a baseline open-field test on open-field ambulation, rearing, and defecation behaviors. They also report no effect in rats analyzed for spatial memory or memory retention of a passive avoidance response. In other studies, rats exposed as above for 5 or 23 successive days were analyzed for survivability and long-term stress reactivity levels. The authors report no effects on growth, spleen, heart, thymus, and adrenal weights, red and white blood cell counts, hemoglobin content, or adrenocorticotrophin and corticosterone levels.
