Rats and mice were exposed to 63 MHz (MRI frequency) at ~1 T for 20 minutes and analyzed for behavioral effects. Exposures were both acute (several exposures over a period of days) or extended (single exposures spread out over a period of weeks). In one study, the authors report no effects in rats given a baseline open-field test on open-field ambulation, rearing, and defecation behaviors. They also report no effect in rats analyzed for spatial memory or memory retention of a passive avoidance response. In other studies, rats exposed as above for 5 or 23 successive days were analyzed for survivability and long-term stress reactivity levels. The authors report no effects on growth, spleen, heart, thymus, and adrenal weights, red and white blood cell counts, hemoglobin content, or adrenocorticotrophin and corticosterone levels. |
