2450 MHz (CW) expsoure to rabbits and analysis of eye pathology |
Details |
|
New Zealand rabbits were exposed to 2450 MHz (CW) at power densities of 5 x 10(-3) or 10 x 10(-3) W/cm2 for 5 minutes per day for 10, 20 or 30 days. Changes in glutathione concentration, carboxypeptidase A, and aminopeptidase were monitored the cortex and core of the lens. Exposure was reported to reduce GSH concentration and increase the enzyme activity of both carboxypeptidase A and aminopeptidase in a manner corresponding to cumulative dose. The authors suggest the absorbed microwave energy results in permeability changes in the capsule and membranes of lenticular fibers leading to secondary metabolic disturbances in the lens of the eye. |
