Case study of a 45-year-old military officer with 18 years at a military radar base and presentation with mediastinal fibrosis, which is "chronic inflammation of the mediastinum of the lungs which may progress to diffuse fibrosis". The officer presented with progressive exertional dyspnea, dry cough, and hemoptysis. Subsequent evaluation demonstrated a left pulmonary artery occlusion and a left upper lobe bronchus stenosis, due to a dense fibrotic mediastinal mass. Histologically, this proved to be idiopathic mediastinal fibrosis (IMF). The authors suggest a possible association with RF exposure. Comment by Hocking and Joyner |
