558 kHz - 527 MHz exposure to radiolinemen exposure and analysis of cataracts |
Details |
|
Radiolinemen (n=53) in Australia exposed to RF between 558 kHz - 527 MHz (primarily from radio and TV towers) were analyzed for cataract formation and compared to 39 controls. Power densities near work areas ranged from 0.08 to 4,000 mW/cm². The authors report some significant correlations with posterior subcapsular cataract (PSC) - found in 19 of the 106 eyes (18%) of the radiolinemen versus in 6 of the 78 control eyes (8%), p=0.043. The contribution of RF was not completely clear as nuclear sclerosis was also observed in some of the radiolinemen |
