ELF / magnetic fields and skin heating associated with 900 / 1800 MHz GSM mobile phones |
Details |
|
ELF magnetic fields associated with 900 / 1800 MHz (GSM) mobile phones will be mapped. Different mobile phone models will be assessed. Start date January 2003, end date December 2005. In a related study, the authors used an infra-red camera to map skin temperature in a single subject during exposure to a 900 MHz (GSM) mobile phone vs. with the antenna replaced by a 50 Ohm load at constant output power levels (2 watts peak). Changes in temperature after 15 and 30 minutes on the exposed and unexposed sides of the head were compared. The authors report that insulation and electrical power dissipation from the handset itself resulted in statistically signicant skin temperature increases, although there was no apparent contribution from the RF exposure itself. |
