Literature review of EMI testing in medical devices due to mobile phones |
Details |
|
Literature review of medical device EMI testing using mobile phones indicated that significant EMI events that could potentially endanger a patient occurred in 45 of 479 devices tested at 900 MHz and 14 of 457 devices tested at 1800 MHz. In the largest studies, the prevalence of clinically relevant EMI was low. Most clinically relevant EMI occurred when mobile phones were used within 1 meter of the medical device. The authors conclude that, although testing was not standardized and equipment tested was not identical, the 4% of devices tested that were susceptible to clinically relevant EMI indicate a need for some management or restrictions. The authors further recommend a minimal separation distance of 1 meter or greater |
